Hi, my name is Ashley Angel. I was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio and have lived in Chicagoland for almost 7 years. On my days off I love hanging out with my friends and reading. I have a passion for teaching young minds and helping them grow into their next stage of life. I started teaching in 2014 after spending a year volunteering at my church in their children’s program. I have worked in a variety of classrooms as large as 20-30 students with portfolios I have created for their learning progress throughout the year. I later started taking classes in Early Childhood Education. In 2017, I moved to Chicago to attend college where I earned my bachelor's degree in Children and Family Ministry. I now work in my church full time as the Children’s Director. I oversee over 70 volunteer teachers and train them how to teach kids in a classroom setting. On a weekly basis I provide lessons and materials for them along with a class schedule. Additionally, I teach in the classrooms because I love it so much! As a teacher, I believe that using objects helps students learn best so that it becomes real to them as well as speaking it. I will work with all students to speak in conversations so they can speak English with excellence! Thank you for reading my bio and I am looking forward to partnering with you to teach your children!

Lynn Hassel grew up in California and began volunteering in high school as a mentor to struggling elementary students. She taught them phonics, reading, and spelling which helped her know at a young age that she wanted to get her teaching degree and work with children. She has fulfilled both those goals. She graduated from Maranatha Baptist University majoring in Secondary Education with minors in Speech (Public Speaking) and History along with a concentration in English. She did her student teaching in Tempe, Arizona during the spring semester of her senior year of college. She taught 7th and 8th grade English as well as several Middle and High School Speech and History classes. After graduation she married her husband of now 36 years and together they became youth leaders at their current church in Illinois. She is the mother of 4 children, all of whom she homeschooled for part of their education. She has used several different quality phonics, grammar, reading, and spelling programs over the 23 years she spent homeschooling. All of her children graduated from High School with honors; three of them have graduated from college and have done well in each of their professions with her last child successfully entering the workplace in the hospitality field. She volunteered as a teacher’s aide to working with students who needed extra help in Math, English and Spelling at the Calvary Baptist Christian Academy in Urbana, Illinois during the 2008-2009 school term. She is currently employed with the Champaign Stephens Family YMCA as a swim instructor for kids with special needs. Most of her students have language struggles so she has learned to be creative and flexible in helping her students understand the meaning of words in the English language so that they can succeed in learning the needed skills for swimming as well as communication skills for life. Lynn began public speaking while in high school and continues to perform poems, short stories, humorous and serious speeches at various churches, schools and local events to audiences of all ages.
Sylvia McDermott grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature, also studying education, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She taught English in high school for two years in her home state, led the Religious Education program (part time) at their church in Thousand Oaks, California, and taught several religious education classes over the years. In Illinois, she taught at her youngest son’s preschool, the Campus Cooperative Preschool on the University of Illinois campus for two years, before leaving for an office job. She homeschooled her youngest son through his middle school years. Sylvia & her husband, married for 36 years, brought up three sons in California, Arizona, and Illinois. Since they have grown up, Sylvia has more time for gardening, reading, and cooking. She looks forward to helping you learn about English pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and spelling!

Hello, my name is Ms. Angie. I was born and raised in Kansas with frequent visits to Arizona almost every summer. I love to spend time out in nature smelling the beautiful pine trees right after it rains. I also enjoy reading and crocheting. What I enjoy most is playing board and card games with my family. Teaching has been a passion of mine since I was a little girl, with my aunt being my main source of inspiration. I began my journey teaching when I was 19 years old. I assisted the teachers in a Montessori school during the school day with toddlers and preschoolers. In the afternoon and during school breaks I would be in charge of around 27 kids, and was responsible for creating lessons that were suitable for all primary school ages. A few years later I worked as a paraprofessional at Rainbows United, a school for special needs children from infant to 5 years old, implementing lesson plans, reading to students, and helping them stay focused during group activities. Fast-forward to September of 2020 I gained a position as a paraeducator in a primary school working with 5th grade students. I mostly went from class to class assisting individual and group students with math and English Language Arts using the Journey’s curriculum. The next year I was invited to work at the school within walking distance to me as a paraprofessional. I was in charge of classrooms from 1st grade through 4th grade. During this time, I worked with a student who had special needs. I was able to help him rise up a grade and a half by the end of the school year. I was so proud of him for working so hard. Now, I am working in a self-contained classroom with children that have emotional disabilities. What a rewarding job. I started my tutoring online journey many years ago and have been blessed to find this lovely couple that are passionate about teaching young learners English. I am so happy to be a part of their teaching team. I love working with students of all ages, and can adapt to many different learning styles. If I need to make some props to help my student, then that is what I will do. I do expect my students to engage in the lesson such as speaking in full sentences when I ask a question, and listening to me when I am speaking. Thank you for taking the time reading my bio, I know we can have a lot of fun learning.
